The cultural offer of Palma is equivalent to one tenfold greater city; for example the Auditorium of Palma is counted among one of the best concerts in Europe.

The mild climate of the island with clear skies, its scenic beauty, its great history, and its cosmopolitan atmosphere, make it a privileged place. In Mallorca there are relaxation, inspiration, culture and leisure, "all so small territory". The majority of visitors are limited to a small space surrounding the beach chosen for your holiday and forget that apart from a beautiful coast, Mallorca offers wonderful scenery and treasures among its plains and mountains that are worth knowing. Some excursions around the island will show us an unimaginable wealth of contrasts.
We started at the capital, Palma de Mallorca, making a beautiful tour of the Bay of Palma. As it is of only about 16 km. from El Arenal port, we recommend do it by bike, along a road which, along the coast, will bring us the pleasure of slow tasting from the beaches of El Molinar, Portixol, Coll d' in Rebassa and Can Pastilla to termi NAR in el Arenal. Again we recommend to take the same path.
In the Bay of Palma, are other beautiful sites that are worth visiting, such as Illetas, a Bay of about 75 m. extension with beautiful pine forests that caress a coastline of fine sand, or Santa Ponça, beach of fine sand and clear waters.
Another excursion, departing from Palma is the beautiful Sierra de Tramuntana, which runs parallel to the sea in the Northwest of the island. Here you will not only enjoy extraordinary landscapes, they pass by beautiful places of great historical and artistic value. You can choose between a shortest path, taking the road N-711 in direction to the North, directly reaching Soller, or the longest, passing through Calvia, very picturesque town with beautiful Mediterranean scenery of olive groves. She highlights its Romanesque-Gothic Parish Church and the castle of Bemdinat, in the 18th century.
The road up to Andraitx takes us through beautiful coastal towns with some of the most beautiful landscapes of the island; We passed Cape Andritxol and the beach of Camp de Mar and beautiful Cove with sandy beach, an islet in the Center. We finally arrived at the port of Andratx, a beautiful natural harbor surrounded by pinewoods and shared by fishermen and vacationers. About 5 km. inside lies the old town of Andraitx, than we have a fantastic panoramic view from the top of the cemetery. The most interesting to visit include its parish church and the Palace of are more. San Telmo is however the most visited coastal port of the island, perhaps because of its strength of s. XVI and as starting point for beautiful island Dragonera Island, near the village are also the ruins of the monastery Sa Trapa.
Taking the road N-710, from Andratx, enjoy wonderful views of the coast, especially suggest visit the outskirts of Puigpunyent, as this town sits in a beautiful region of olive groves and almond trees. Valldemosa, will be the next station, the Royal Charterhouse where Chopin the winter of 1838-1839 he lived with George Sand. Few kilometrosse is the charming small port of Valldemossa.
Deià, beautiful mountain village, lies the next surprise with its scenic beauty in great harmony with the typical buildings. Tourist buildings have respected the uniqueness of its architecture and its cemetery is one of the most beautiful of Majorca, with unique inscriptions on their tombstones. It is also of great beauty the Bay of Lluc Alcari and its small beach.
Soller, exponent city's noblest Mallorcan architecture located in a site of great botanical richness. A funny electric tram leading to the port, a fishing district of great local colour, dominated by a medieval castle. Also in Sóller we find a wealth of monumental as shown it in the parish of San Bartolomé, neo-Gothic, the Museum of Sóller or the convent of San Francisco. But perhaps most striking is its modernist aqrquitectura.
Nearby a small road we arrived in Biniaraix, beautiful displays of Mallorcan architecture. Crossing beautiful and winding mountain roads, we arrived a considered the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, Sa Calobra, enclave from where we will visit the monastery of Lluc, Center of great devotion for Mallorca, which rests on one of the highest points on the island. Few kilometers away lies Escorca, small village located nearly 500 m above sea level. The Museum houses an interesting collection of numismatics, ceramics, metalwork and archaeology.
At the foot of two high hills, from where you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of the city and the Bay, we found the Pollença-charming, picturesque city with its narrow streets and old houses. It will also serve as starting point for a cultural visit to this important historic and artistic enclave. Highlights in the area the Pollença Museum, with an exhibition of painting, zoology, and medieval art, the Atalaya de Formentor, end of the Tower XVI, the Castell del Rei, ruins of century XIV, in the Sierra de Tarnelles, the Puig de Maria, sanctuary on the outskirts the parish of Santa Maria de los Angeles, Greco-Roman temple with Baroque ornamentation, and many more. What perhaps impress us most however are Monte Calvario, a staircase of 365 steps, on the outskirts of the town, which celebrates the Via Crucis. At the Summit there is an oratory of s. XIV. 6 Km away lies the port of Pollença, nice fishing port which has served as a refuge to tourists and artists. Here settled a colony of artists whose inspiration was the well-known painter Anglada Camassara, his work will appreciate it in its Museum, located on the street that bears his name. Also another great Mallorcan poet has its Street, Costa i Llobera, where you can visit his birthplace. 7 km., is San Vicente Creek, internationally well known with its valleys populated by pine forests almost bathing in the sea, and 9 km. Formentor Beach, also known for its fine white sand, both tourist enclaves of great quality.
In parallel to the above indicated route we could return to Palma describing another route full of natural and historical riches. This tour will start it at the other end of the Bay of Pollensa, in the medieval town of Alcudia, which take time and visit its beautiful streets flanked houses the s. Palace is worth XVI and XVII, its parish church, the gate of the city , and its Roman Theatre, very well preserved. Then take the N-717 and reach Inca, agricultural and industrial town with a textile production and prestige footwear. Here it is worth visiting the Cathedral, wineries or cellers where large volume tanks, called boats congranyades, are preserved and see the beautiful panoramic view that can be seen from the nearby Puig de Santa Magdalena. Passing by Binissalem, we arrive back to Palm.
From Palma in direction Southeast, continuing on the road N-717, is worth visiting Llucmajor, which aside from its picturesque and beautiful landscapes, such as the one offered by the small and narrow Bay of Pi, also presents some monuments of great interest, as the Parish Church. Santanyí is reminiscent of the time when pirate attacks were so common on the island, since they placed their base of operations in the neighbouring island of Cabrera. The ancient gate of the walls, Porta Murada is still preserved. Felanitx, is one of the four towns on the island; dedicated to the production of wines. Stresses its parish church and the sanctuary of San Salvador, run since the middle ages by the hermits of the order of San Antonio and San Pablo. From it you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view.
Manacor is the second largest city of the Balearic Islands, with an important production of furniture, objects of hollow glass and imitation pearls. The archaeological museum is well worth a visit, with exhibition of important prehistoric island and early Christian series. Nearby is Petra, where he was born Fray Junípero Serra, founder of missions that would later become the current California cities. Here you can visit the birthplace of the monk, the monastery of s. XVII, and nearby, on a hill the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Bonany. Near Manacor, Porto Cristo, important tourist area, where we find the caves of Drach, beautiful natural cave with an underground lake is located. It is also worth visiting the aquarium with all the marine fauna of the Balearic or the Exotic-Park, with lots of cactus and exotic birds. From here along the coast both to the South and North, you will find beautiful coves. Highlights in this area of Cala Millor, in the Bay of Arta. The same peninsula of Artà is of great interest, for its castle, Palace and great concentration monumental houses. We recommend visiting the parish church, the monastery of San Francisco and the Museum with important prehistoric pieces. And for those interested in the very remote periods; SES Paises offers very important finds from the megalithic era. And how not to mention the beautiful natural caves of Arta or the fantastic panoramic view that of the Bay of Alcudia can be seen from the nearby Chapel of Betlem.
Nearby is the well known Cala Ratjada, typical village of fishermen, built next to a medieval castle (Castle of Capdepera, XIII), now converted into residential area. In this area we find interesting enclaves, like the Tower of Canyamel, gigantic defensive Tower of the s. XII, or the March House gardens, very important private collection of modern art, or the beautiful beaches of the area such as Cala Mesquida, an excellent beach of dunes, which also stops at bike by a beautiful country road
We can no longer take for completed our trip without visiting the wonderful area of the Bay of Alcudia, which we will cover in full if we spotted it from Monte San Talaia. To the South there are some very beautiful beaches and the port of Alcudia, which is well worth the visit. And now there's the Albufera Park. There is a road bike for 12 km. surrounding Natural Park. Although it is not entirely paved, it does not present great difficulty, because it is a plain road and its stretches of land are well surfaced. It is recommended to respect its natural not shouting harmony, or saliendose of the trails. Also you can stroll within the Park by different paths, the same reception will provide you all the necessary information.
Nightlife in Mallorca
In almost all tourist centers and all island is a glittering nightlife can be seen just leaving the hotel. Usually located in areas of the port or the beach. In any case, in these pages we cite areas in Palma de Mallorca:
Area of the old town
Within the charming framework offered by the narrow streets of the Centre, close to the Cathedral, we find music bars and pubs with true Bohemian. The gastronomic offer is also interesting, why it is advisable to start the night.
It is perhaps the most sophisticated bar area, in it you will find elegant and luxurious premises, exclusive performances live, all jazz, swing and blues. The crowd of locals in this area close their doors too late. Also on the waterfront is what has been termed area dock Can Barbara, juvenile shelter in the serious part of the promenade. Area Paseo Mallorca
Located in the center of the city houses the local "always" of Palma, with stylish pubs which cocktails and good preparation remain in religion.
Plaza Gomila
Here it dominates the local atmosphere and authentic island. There are locals more frequented, nightlife area is, in limited space are major crowds.
Beach area
In the Arenal area, as in Can Pastilla, is a really fun youthful atmosphere, where tourists and mallorcans are confused in their numerous nightclubs until the wee hours. El Arenal, whose promenade and adjacent areas are filled with restaurants, shops and bars or nightclubs has become a cliché throughout Europe, especially in Germany by the great number of young people in this country that her dress every summer. It is therefore no coincidence find here huge local cups decorated German-style where beer and cocktails run per litre. Here the party is assured until late in the evening, with the most famous DJs, live music, entertainers, etc, to the point that some of the holidaymakers live only the night and almost no tread on the beach.
